Preston Residential College at the University of South Carolina wanted to reintroduce their formerly annual literary magazine in an effort to collect and showcase students’ artistic abilities. I was selected as one of two directors of visual art to work on reintroducing this publication.
Create a publication for Preston Residential College that students would be willing to submit to as well as read. Come up with a budget for the publication, find a printer, create a buzz for students to submit their artistic work, curate student work, and design the publication for print.
The team of literary magazine staffers came together and decided on the name of the magazine and the layout concept. As a director of visual art I created flyers and social media posts to create a buzz about the magazine and used this to encourage students to submit their work. Next, I helped in the selection process for paintings, drawings, short stories, and poetry to include in the publication. I helped to design the overall look and feel of this publication.
